Successful Fasting

“A sincere biblical fast gets God’s attention. As an angel told the prophet Daniel, “Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them” (Daniel 10:12 NIV). When you commit to fasting and praying, God dispatches messengers to answer and help you. Expect to hear from Him in myriad and unexpected ways. We get so caught up in our daily routines that we aren’t actively listening to hear His voice in our conversations with others or in our circumstances, but He speaks all the time.

Conversely, when the enemy sees you are serious about your consecration, don’t be surprised to experience hindrances from people or situations around you. You can be assured of that. Slow down and consider this: prayer and fasting are elements of spiritual warfare. Why wouldn’t the enemy want to distract you with circumstances and conversations to throw you off focus? Rebuke the enemy in the name of Jesus and stay focused on the task at hand.” Excerpt from When I Was Hungry: Fasting, Praying, and Seeking God’s Face
