The Tony Evans Biblical Commentary discusses prayer as the divine means of putting on our spiritual armor, which is a reflection of the person and work of Jesus Christ on our behalf. Prayer must be woven into all life. We need to stay in regular communication with God and pray in the Spirit in order to access heaven’s authority for intervention on Earth.1 When we stand before God, and He instantly reviews a lifetime of our prayer conversations, will it reflect 1). Persistent prayer and strong faith, 2). Inconsistent, selfish prayer coupled with varying degrees of faith, or 3). No prayer life at all? Some prayer is better than no prayer, but as followers of Christ, we don’t have to settle for a shallow hit-and-miss prayer life when the Holy Spirit wants to ignite our entire being with God’s fellowship, might, and power. Developing a prayer life is a highly intimate endeavor that continues and grows over one’s lifetime. Eloquent prayers are beautiful, but they don’t necessarily move God to action. It’s the consecrated lives we live and the hearts we possess that elevate our prayers before God. ” Excerpt from When I Was Hungry: Fasting, Praying, and Seeking God’s Face
